Creative tools for client work: a licensing checklist

Access to a tool is not permission for every use

A software subscription lets you use a particular service under its terms. An included font, photo, template, music track or generated output can have additional conditions. Check the current license for the exact asset and your intended project rather than inferring rights from a premium label.

This is a practical recordkeeping checklist, not a license grant or legal clearance. If the relevant terms are unclear, ask the rights holder before delivering a client project.

Record the project and permitted end use

• Identify the asset, source, license version and date you obtained it.
• Check whether a project registration or a separate license for another use is required.
• Review restrictions on standalone redistribution, templates, resale and trademark use.
• Clarify what may be handed to the client and which source files or assets remain restricted.
• Confirm what happens to existing projects and new uses when the subscription ends.

Use provider-specific rules

Envato Elements describes a license tied to a specified project use; another project can require another registration. That is a provider-specific rule, not a universal rule for every creative service. Read the linked license in full for its conditions and exceptions.

For a seller-listed package, also establish who holds the subscription and who can legitimately register and evidence the license. A seller warranty cannot expand the rights granted by a provider or rights holder.
